The 4th Belgrade International Meeting “Artur Takatch Memorial” fulfilled all expectations of both guests and hosts. Nearly 10 000 athletics’ fans rooted for some 160 competitors from 35 countries and more than 20 Serbian athletes at “Partizan” stadium. Traditionally, the meeting opened with the “Speeding for the Stars” run of the third and fourth graders from Belgrade Elementary schools.

Belgrade, Serbia – World 100m record holder Asafa Powell made his eagerly anticipated 2007 debut a notable one, running a world leading 9.97 in the 100m to highlight the second Artur Takac Memorial in the Serbian capital, tonight.

The fastest boys and girls from seventeen Belgrade municipalities gathered at the stadium of "Partizan", but the city final of the action "Brzinom do zvezda" was postponed due to bad weather conditions.

On this occasion the promoter of the action, the legendary Colin Jackson, arrived in Belgrade, greeted the children and encouraged them promising to keep them company the next week.

Mr Arthur Takac was born in 1918, in Celdemok (a town in Hungary). He spent his young days in Varazdin. After an active sport career, interrupted by the Second World War, he had a key role in organizing the world championship in Belgrade in 1962 and became an international sport administrator. He was elected by the Congress of IAAF and became the Secretary of the European Committee. Since then, a long and successful career within the MOK, IAAF and EAA follows and in the meanwhile was elected a life long honorable member of IAAF (in 1999) and EAA (in 1987).
